The Kerrera Ferry

The Kerrera Ferry is located 2 miles from Oban town centre on the southern Gallanach route, where there is some, though limited, parking available. Alternatively, buses depart twice daily from Station Road arriving in time for the 10.30 ferry, returning again to meet you at 4pm. Summer Timetable 2013 Easter – October 14th
Ferries run at 08.40 (not Sundays) then approximately every half hour from 10.30 to 12.30 and from 14.00 until 17.00pm with a further ferry at 18.00. The white board must be turned to black to signal to the ferryman that you wish to cross. Ferries at 08.00 and 19.00 hours may be arranged if booked before 12 noon the preceding day (see contact details below).

Winter Timetable There are scheduled ferries at 08.40, 10.30, 12.30, 14.00, 16.00, 17.00 and 18.00, which are summoned by turning the white board to black. Ferries are subject to cancellation due to weather conditions etc.

Further information: For those travelling under their own Sails, the Oban Bay Marina at Kerrera’s North end provides moorings with access to amenities and a ferry service into Oban for its users. Contact  01631 565333. In addition, there are a number of safe natural harbours around the coast of Kerrera. Camping on the Island can be permitted but please check with the nearest house.

Accomodation

Kerrera Tea Garden & Bunkhouse at Lower Gylen offers comfortable and basic self-catering accommodation with beds for 7-9 people. The Byre, with sofas, large dining table and wood burner can also be booked for use by groups in the evenings. The Bunkhouse is located near the castle at the south end of the Island, 2 miles from the ferry. Baggage can be collected by arrangement. Places to Eat

Kerrera Tea Garden at Lower Gylen is just 5 minutes walk from Gylen Castle and provides a welcome break for those walking around the island’s circular route. Now open seven days a week from Easter to September, with opening hours from 10.30am-4.30pm. Martin and Aideen offer a warm welcome and a variety of home-cooked food, including their own bread and cakes. Their cooking is both traditional and innovative, using local Kerrera produce where possible. The Tea Garden ask for prior warning for groups larger than 8 to ensure adequate supplies. The Waypoint Bar and Grill operates from the Oban Bay Marina.
