Hurrah!!! As of July 2019, we own the old school building!!! Islanders are delighted- we have been hoping for this for a long time, and now we go full steam ahead to turn the much-loved (but dilapidated) building into our new fit-for-purpose community centre.
Since the Trust was founded and through all the community consultations over the years, one of the main islander priorities has been to secure a community venue. For decades islanders have met in barns, kitchens, fields and boats. Thanks to the Scottish Land Fund we were able to buy the building- now we need to raise over £150,000 to renovate the building, add new toilet and kitchen facilities, a new septic tank, create parking spaces and make it wheelchair accessible.
Thanks to our funding from the Scottish Land Fund, we now have a new Project Manager for the school project. Islander, Aideen Shields is thrilled to be on board and she has been cracking on with our fundraising. Please get in touch with her if you have any questions, and especially if you fancy supporting our cause - firstname.lastname@example.org
We now have our eyes fixed firmly on the six figure sum we need to raise to renovate the school - if you would like to donate to this project you can click on the link below. Many thanks for your support.
Please check out our press release about the purchase.
